Oh yes - what a lovely Halloween Prank. Happy Halloween (weekend), all. And now it’s time for the tale of my Saturday! It all began when I realized that I still had no costume…

Since I’m no sloucher, I immediately leapt into action and declared an emergency trip to the mall in order.

So after I hopped in the shower and into some clothes, and then walked downtown where I found the Bellis Fair bus just arriving. So I hopped aboard, and road along, until I heard the bus driver say:

I did not know that there was a Salvation Army anywhere near, so I hopped off at the next stop to see what sorts of costumes they had to offer. They didn’t have much by way of costumes, so I looked around their ordinary clothes to see if there was something that caught my eye.
They had one suit that could have made a semi-decent pee-wee, but then I spotted a nice black shirt hanging up:

I picked up the shirt and carried it around as I looked for more options. And then I found some black pants that matched the shirt almost perfectly - and I had remembered seeing some black graduation robes at Value Village the last time I was there, and I thought that with all these things combined, I could make a pretty sweet Snape costume, and so that’s what I went with.

Since all they had there at the Salvation Army was the shirt and pants, the trip to the mall was still needed, so I went back out to the bus stop mere minutes before the bus arrived (my timing was just about perfect the entire day - it was pretty awesome the way that worked out, as you’ll see later in the story).

So I went to the Value Village, found a nice black graduation robe, and tried to find a nice button up black vest (like the one I have at home that would have been perfect if I had brought it along to school rather than leave it at home). Unfortunately they didn’t have any, so I kept looking around and eventually found a shiny black vest-like thing that I thought would work just as well, if not as accurate based on the movie costume.

I tried the whole costume on over there and it looked pretty sweet - except for my non-Snape-y hair style.

So I tried on some wigs at the Value Village and didn’t find anything suitable, so I left value village to cross the street into the actual mall itself.

The nearest entrance to the mall from Value Village is through the Macy’s, where I had just found out that Lisette is working, so I went over to the make-up counter (where she works) to see if she was around. As it turns out she was the very first person I saw at the make-up counter, and so I went over and chatted with her for a while.

She recommended that I look at the halloween store they have set up in the store there, and so that’s where I went next. They had a whole Harry Potter section, but no snape stuff. They had one straight black hair wig that, although not snape, might have been a decent substitute. I considered getting it, until I saw the price tag: $30! Wadda ripoff. So I left that halloween store, and went to Target and the Dollar Store to see what they had to offer.

Neither of those places had anything good to offer either by way of wigs, so I left the mall (after stopping at the kitchen store and getting a set of cooling racks) to go to Rite Aid, where they were having a sale on their halloween stuff.

At Rite-Aid they only had wigs with multiple colors, so I didn’t get one there either. But since this was the last place on my list of places to look, I decided to just go ahead and make the wig myself, so I picked up a ball of black yarn, some heavy duty tape, and some scissors.

On my way back to the apartment, I found a stick on the ground that I decided to turn into a magic wand (because without a magic wand, Snape would be defenseless, and we can’t have that now, can we?)

Once I got back to the apartment I widdled the stick into magic wand shape, and cut the yarn up into long bits, and then arranged them on layers of tape, which I then stapled together so that the whole thing wouldn’t fall apart. And the result:

And then the costume was finished! Hooray!
Now that that was taken care of, I chilled around the apartment for a while until I thought it would be a good time to start walking to the party. But lucky for me, as I was walking down Bill McDonald, there was Meredith walking to her car (this was the good timing that I mentioned earlier). She had some friends over at her apartment, so she invited me in to partake of the Halloween Festivities of it all.

Inside were a few people dressed up in fancy costumes of their own:

We stayed around that apartment for a while until it was time to go to Jake and Nate’s party (that was the party that I was going to, and they were going to as well (because we’re mostly theatre people, and this was a theatre people party). At the main party there were quite a few people in too many costumes to draw accurately. I spent pretty much the entire time dancing with Karri and her friend, and every now and then took breaks to go get some air (because it was mighty hot and smelly inside).

This party was pretty fun, although I did not enjoy it as much as I have the other recent parties. They turned the music off at about 2:30 and people cleared out pretty quick after that. I got a ride home from Rodney about 3am (2am after I switched the clocks), and I went to bed feeling strangely unsatisfied. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but something about the evening just didn’t sit right with me… but it was still an enjoyable day/evening/night.
I’ll put up some actual photographs later on. Happy Halloween, all.
